Welcome

Welcome to the first Water Users Newsletter. I thought this would be a useful way to communicate information to water users in a more interesting way rather than just random emails. I thought that this could also be displayed in club buildings or handed out to members. I can also display copies in the changing rooms. It will be produced ad hoc as and when information needs to be passed on.

Safety Boat Informal Training Session

On Tuesday 10th June a successful informal training evening was held, practicing rescue techniques with the safety boat. Members of the sailing club and canoe group were present along with tarn staff. Everyone had a practice at driving the boat as well as coming alongside and rescuing a person from the water.  I will organise another one of these to allow others to attend.

Water Sports Day

The Water Sports day went well with several hundred people attending. Thank you to all those who took part. Feedback was very good from everyone, and we will hold this event again next year, hopefully around about the same weekend. Feedback was that it was good to have a 15min break between each session, but at times some people overran their sessions which put other sessions behind as a result. I am happy to receive ideas for how to solve this. Either we have to be much stricter on timing or perhaps each session should have been an hour rather than 45min. Let me know your thoughts on this. As a result of this day the Model Boat club have requested to have a day just for model boats and this event will take place on Sunday 3rd Aug.

Weather Warning Flag

You will all have seen the new flag up on the front. Please read the sign and familiarise yourself with what each colour signifies. I will keep the flag on amber until I have the weather station up and running. Further information will follow about how to use the weather station. It would be worth the clubs having a think about possible cut off wind speeds for use of the water by their clubs. This may vary between clubs.

New Water Safety Equipment

A new life ring has been installed on the front of the tearoom if needed. New signage has also gone up to advise that there should be no unauthorised swimming in the tarn. The only group currently allowed are the One- life Triathalon club. Throw lines are also available from the takeaway area of the tearoom (downstairs) and from the site office. One is also kept in the safety boat. Emergency towels and blankets are also kept in the site office and upstairs in the tearoom if required. A new muster alarm is soon to be installed to raise the alarm quickly in the case of an emergency.

Tarn Training Ground For Champions – One Life Racing Triathalon Club

Thought you might like to know that Barry  Jameson, the coach for this club has just become world Champion for his age category, after winning at the world championships in Canada. Well done to him and other members of the club who also competed and were highly placed.

Fishing Season Open

Fishing season has re-opened as of the 15th June. Fishing is now only allowed from the Alex Boathouse round past Tarn End and back down to the bird hide (Farlam Boathouse) No fishing is allowed anywhere else from the shore (this includes all the bays and island)

Water Depths Chart

A chart of the water depths throughout the tarn is displayed on the information board on the front of the changing rooms. Copies available from site office on request
